Clutch Bag Main Shot

The Duck Tape Clutch Bag is an advanced level activity for crafters with a bit of experience under their belt. This is a great project to complete during the weekend or over the course of a few sessions for those with limited time. Completion time is estimated at approximately two hours. You will need eight different materials to make this craft.  The effect is beautiful, as you can see from the photograph. 12 steps are involved in creating the Duck Tape Clutch Bag.

We recommend using three different colours, styles or patterns of Duck Tape for the your clutch. You will need to create a Duck Tape Fabric Sheet which can be easily learned by clicking on the preceding link. (Don’t worry, it takes as little as five minutes!) With its woven tape, elegant flowers and golden floral wire, this Duck Tape Clutch Bag is a winner!

You will need:

• Duck Tape®
• Paper Fasteners
• Floral wire
• Scissors
• Craft knife
• Ruler
• Wire cutters
• Craft board

Clutch Bag Step 1

Step 1

Cut a 13 in. long piece of Duck Tape® and fold it in half lengthwise sticky side to sticky side. Make 10 of these.

Clutch Bag Step 2

Step 2

Cut 14 pieces of Duck Tape® that are 9.5 in. long and fold it in half lengthwise sticky side to sticky side.

Clutch Bag Step 3

Step 3

Lay your 10 longer pieces going up and down and weave the 14 shorter pieces through horizontally.

Clutch Bag Step 4

Step 4

Create a large Duck Tape Fabric Sheet that is bigger than the woven sheet created in Steps 1-3 (please see separate Ducktivity for how to make a Duck Tape Fabric Sheet.)

Clutch Bag Step 6

Step 5

Carefully lay your woven piece on top of your larger Duck Tape fabric sheet. Trim any uneven sides or edges.

Clutch Bag Step 5

Step 6

With the woven part down, fold the bottom up toward the middle, leaving a flap at the top. Seal your pocket with a strip of Duck Tape® on each side.

Clutch Bag Step 7

Step 7

For the flowers, cut two 10.5 in. long strips of Duck Tape® and 5 pieces of 1.5 in. long floral wire.  Lay your strips sticky side up.

Clutch Bag Step 8

Step 8

Place 5 pieces of wire about 2 in. apart on the sticky side of one Duck Tape® strip. Place the other strip on top to sandwich the wire in between.

Clutch Bag Step 9

Step 9

Cut your strip into 5 squares. Make sure a piece of wire is in the middle of each square.

Clutch Bag Step 10

Step 10

Fold each piece in half so that the wire is on the fold and cut a petal shape. Make sure the wire is in the middle of your petal.

Clutch Bag Step 11

Step 11

Cut small strips of Duck Tape® to tape the petals together on the back of the flower.

Clutch Bag Step 12

Step 12

Use paper fasteners in the middle of the flower to attach it to purse and use to add decoration to the bag too!
